Abstract
Due to recent increases in large load demand, from sources like artificial intelligence (AI) data centers, crypto mining, hydrogen electrolysers and electric vehicles, the need for more transmission capacity is intensifying. Challenges related to acquiring new rights-of-way for overhead transmission lines are prompting utilities to explore ways to optimize existing assets. This includes considering options like converting overhead AC transmission lines to DC operation to enhance transmission capacity.
